Ruckus Children’s Books
Stories that empower kids to question, imagine, and create change
Ruckus Children’s Books is a Brooklyn-based mobile bookstore and community partner bringing radical, joyful, inclusive stories to your neighborhood and events!
RCKS=Reading, Community, Kids, Stories
Ruckus Children's Books was created to give kids access to stories that spark courage, curiosity, connection, imagination, and joyful rebellion.
I know what it feels like to grow up without stories that reflect your world.
When kids and young adults have access to stories that reflect their identities and possibilities, everything changes. They grow more confident, more curious, more willing to speak up and stand tall!
Ruckus brings a curated selection of inclusive, empowering children’s books directly to neighborhoods, schools, and community spaces, along with events, workshops, and partnerships that center kids’ agency, interests, and joy.
Kids voices are powerful and important!
Reading is a tool for agency, imagination, comfort, and collective liberation
Adults are partners and guides for children's empowerment and we serve as a support for adults interested in nurturing ideas, interests, and imagination.
Our current systems often silence children's voices and exclude them from inquisitive conversations and decision-making.

SUPPORT THE RUCKUS MOBILE VAN PROJECT!
The Ruckus van has a story of its own.
It was gifted to me by my parents after we used it to move our entire little elder‑animal crew including three 13‑year‑old cats, three 16‑year‑old hermit crabs, a 19‑year‑old cockatiel, and a 19‑year‑old fish, seventeen hours south to their new home after my parents retired. The van is almost twenty years old, full of memories, and in need of some real love, but like most things I take on, it’s a labor of love that I’m excited to pour into!
Right now, the van needs a new airbag sensor, proper shelving, and a fresh paint job before it can officially become the Ruckus mobile bookstore where it will hold inventory, roll into neighborhoods, and pop up at local businesses and community events.
If you’d like to help bring the Ruckus van to life, your support goes directly toward getting it road‑ready and turning it into a joyful, accessible space for kids and families.
