Ruckus Children's Books exists to bring joyful, justice‑centered literacy experiences directly into community spaces.

When you partner with Ruckus, you’re helping kids feel seen, supported, and empowered to use their voices. Together, we can build spaces where reading becomes a radical act of imagination, rest, and resistance.

Who It’s For

Ruckus partners with organizations that believe in the power of story and the brilliance of children, including:

  • Small businesses like cafes, shops, markets, and community gardens

  • Families and individuals looking to bring Ruckus into their homes, celebrations, or personal learning spaces

  • Schools and educators looking to bring inclusive, empowering books into their classrooms

  • Libraries and museums building community‑centered programming

  • Nonprofits and community organizations serving families and youth

  • Event hosts planning festivals, block parties, or neighborhood gatherings

If you’re committed to creating spaces where kids can explore, question, and grow, I'd love to collaborate.

What We Offer

Ruckus brings a range of literacy‑centered experiences to your space. Every offering is designed to center kids, spark curiosity, and build community.

  • Pop‑Up Bookstores: Bring Ruckus to your cafe, community garden, museum, shop, or event

  • Community Events: Birthday parties and baby showers, book fairs, story hours.

  • Workshops + Education: Speaking and programs for kids, parents, caregivers, and educators.

  • Home + Little Library Support: Consulting, curation, stocking, and community partnerships.

  • Book Clubs: For kids or adults, facilitated by me in your space.

Reading for Collective Liberation: Work with me 1:1 to understand how to read for liberation, how publishing works, how to support independent creators, and how to choose books that are honest and age-appropriate.

All offerings are flexible and can be shaped to fit your community’s needs.

How It Works

Partnering with Ruckus is simple, collaborative, and rooted in care.

  1. Reach out to book Ruckus Children's Books for your event or space.
Share your goals, your community, and the experience you’re imagining.

  2. Choose your activation.
Birthday story time, pop‑up bookstore, book fair, workshop, story hour, library consulting—whatever best supports your community.

  3. Watch kids light up with confidence, curiosity, and joy.
Ruckus brings the books, the energy, and the intention. You bring the space and the community. Together, we create something powerful.

Ruckus Children's Books operates on a flexible pricing model rooted in solidarity. Sliding scales, community‑sponsored books, and free services are available whenever possible.

When those with financial privilege pay more, others can pay less—or nothing at all. This is how we build a community where every child has access to stories that help them grow.

Pricing Structure

My prices vary service-to-service and your financial security plays a role.
There are four levels of the pricing scale:

Solidarity Level ($0)

You are struggling to pay your bills, are supporting others, have limited to no income, or have no access to savings. I offer a select number of FREE services per month, with the costs covered by community gifting.

Community Level

You can meet your basic needs but have little to no savings and limited financial flexibility. This tier helps cover operational costs and keeps free and reduced-cost options available to others.

Supporter Level

You can meet your basic needs, pay for services like this, and have limited savings. This tier covers operational costs, supports my labor, and provides reduced-cost options.

Sustainer Level

You have access to savings, own property, or take vacations. You help subsidize others. This tier covers operational costs and my labor, and funds free and reduced-cost offerings for the community.

Ruckus Children’s Books is funded by community.

Ruckus Children's Books is a mission‑driven, community‑led literacy project rooted in collective liberation and the belief that every child deserves access to stories that help them grow, question, and imagine.

When you give to Ruckus, you’re helping bring joyful, justice-centered reading experiences directly into neighborhoods, schools, and community spaces—especially those where access to books has been limited by income, geography, or systemic inequity.

Support Ruckus Children’s Books

  • Free Books for Kids: Your support keeps the community shelf full so every child can take home a book, no matter their family’s financial situation.

  • Sliding‑Scale Programming: When those with financial privilege give more, others can pay less—or nothing at all!

  • Community Events: Gifts help bring story hours, reading circles, and literacy activations to schools, parks, block parties, and neighborhood gatherings.

  • Little Library Support: Donations help stock, refresh, and sustain community‑run little libraries.

  • The Ruckus Van: Contributions support upkeep, fuel, and future projects like the community‑designed mural that will bring the bus to life.

How Your Gift Helps

Ruckus is a mission‑driven small business, not a nonprofit organization.
That means your contribution is a gift, not a tax‑deductible donation. This model allows Ruckus to stay flexible, community‑responsive, and rooted in care rather than bureaucracy. Your support directly sustains the work and helps redistribute resources so that all families can participate.

Your generosity helps create a world where every child has access to stories that spark courage, curiosity, and joy. Thank you for being part of this work!

I’m based in Brooklyn, New York, where the cost of living is high, and access to resources is limited for so many. My ability to offer free and reduced-cost work depends entirely on community support and my own financial sustainability. I am committed to reinvesting 100% of earnings back into the community once I am able to sustain my labor at the equivalent of a livable wage.
